Hey aficianados of Afro-Cuban music (specifically the Yorùbá music kept alive by the captured Lukumí and Ifa faithful west Africans who were forcibly taken to Cuba)...

Our own Instructor Luca Brandoli continues his amazing grand opus
Cantos Afrocubanos
with even more volumes, consisting of 50 rhythms
& chants (Orishas for various purposes) per set. You can pick up any book & CD set, Volume 1-5 for only $50.

Volumes 3, 4, and 5 look like this...

Cantos Afrocubanos V. 3

Cantos Afrocubanos V. 4

Cantos Afrocubanos V. 5

There are now at least 5 volumes in this collection! It's first-rate scholarship in an attractive and durable package now available at roughly chapbook prices; please make sure we have the volume(s) you want by emailing Dan. or you can always contact us by Fax or Telephone or drop in to check what we have in stock.

We'd prefer that you buy his works here, but if you're a long distance, you can also find Luca's work online at CDBaby.com (until our new site launches). ¡Vaya, Luca!

Hi Motherland Friend!

We will have our Second Annual Special Free Event open to everyone called Mandingo Night in our back parking lot area now with extended hours from 1:30 - 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 14. We hope that you (and your family & friends) can join us for this outdoor afternoon-evening event (dress appropriately!) and get to know some other wonderful MM VIPs, customers and students. Check out some of our amazing faculty and students playing African drums and just enjoy! We will have a few free door prizes and at least one very special guest TBA. We also hope to make a few awards, and this year we'll also have a Student Student Drumming Contest featuring the creme de la creme of MMIAM's students.. This is a don't-miss event!
Student Contest sign-ups are open from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
The Mandingo Night flyer is below (please click to see it full size).

Hosted by our own Malik Sow, Mandingo Night 2010 will feature performances by several of our drumming instructors and their students as an opportunity to say "thank you!" to those who support our mission. Friend of Motherland Music and host of Afrodicia, DJ Nnamdi Moweta will host Maestro Malik on the afternoon of Saturday, August 7 on KPFK FM 90.7, so please tell everyone who might be interested and tune in! Also KPFK is aired live on the World Wide Web. Just click on Listen Live between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. to hear.

Bring your drum to Mandingo Night on the 14th and be prepared to take part in various impromptu gatherings inside and outside the store. "It's gonna be a lot of fun!" I say, as owner of Motherlaland Music and I am personally inviting you to this special annual event.

We are open daily to serve you... 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. 7 days. We have multiple Youth Classes Sunday a.m. Please drop in to join a class, or just visit before, during, or after any class to experience what's going on here. The energy flow and overall community drumming experience will probably do you good! We are also inviting written and video customer/student testimonials; if you would like to contribute, please let us know!

If you told me personally that you want to be interviewed or would welcome an opportunity to speak your mind about Motherland Music to our extended (Internet) family, I apologize if I forgot to contact you (I do get busy and sometimes I forget things), so please get back in touch with me, and we can schedule something at a mutually convenient time. Feel free to email comments about taking classes or making purchases here directly to me, dan@motherlandmusic.com. Thanks again!!

Sincerely,

Dan Rice
Motherland Music
