It's been a few weeks since our last group message, I want to say, HI, HOW ARE YOU ALL DOING!!! Quite a few regulars have been frequenting the new location, thanks for that, we love seeing you and look forward visiting, helping, sharing with everyone on this list eventually as you find a reason to make contact. Anyway don't be shy, we want to show off our new digs, it's a great spot for what we are doing, thank you lord, god, alla, and all the other great spirits out there <br />

Yes, it's that time on the month, the all womens drum circle-workshop (AWDC) is happening this Saturday, May 28, 2011 6:30 to 8:30pm, there is parking in the driveway. You are welcome to call Motherland at 310-673-8000 with any questions. <br />

The following is information from Sabina and JoAnn regarding the drum circle and the main musical instrument used. Sorry the embedded picture did not appear below.<br />

<br />
DJEMBE (pronounced /JEM-bay) also known as djimbe, jenbe, jymbe, jembe, yembe, or jimbay, or sanbanyi in Susu; is a skin covered hand drum, shaped like a large goblet, and meant to be played with bare hands. According to the Bamana people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes directly from the saying "Anke dje, anke be" which literally translates to "everyone gather together", and defines the drum's purpose. "Dje" is the verb for "gather" in Bamanakan, and "be" translates as "everyone" in Bamanakan. The drumheads are typically made from goatskin, but more rarely can be antelope, zebra, deer, camel or calf. In all cases the female is preferred and adult cow is never used. Some Africans consider the djembe to be female. <br />

As the music soars, so will our spirits. We can all use this "ME" time to relax, sway, heal, dance, and drum. Please help the "Give A Kid A Drum" program by donating $10. This money all goes towards the purchase of a drum for an inner city child. <br />

The first bit of business is we want to thank all persons who came over to our Japan Relief Drum Circle last Sunday!<br />

Our rhythms definitely reached our brothers and sisters in Japan. We raise over $600!! and it was dropped off at the Red Cross today, Tuesday!<br />
Thank you so much for your contributions and thanks for you thoughts for those who could not participate. <br />
<br />
Now Motherland will host our women's drum circle this coming Saturday, March 26th from 6:30 to 8:00+pm.<br />
